Frequently Asked questions

What is a zine?

Zines (pronounced like the third syllable in "magazine") are a tradition of collecting artwork, prose, and/or other forms of content centered around a theme together into a booklet. Fanzines, zines centered around existing media arranged by fans, are a tradition dating all the way back to the late 1960s with fans of Star Trek. They often include a combination of fanart and fanfiction, but can also include other forms of fan content such as cosplay photos, in-universe written works, poetry, and more!

What form will this zine take?

This zine will be a physical book with physical merch, likely with a separate limited edition add-on item. The exact specs, merch items, and size of the project will depend on the results of our interest check. If you have suggestions or opinions on these matters, please make sure to fill it out!

What type of content will be included in this zine?

Starry-Eyed will be a mixture of art, writing, and comics about Olufrey, the romantic ship between Qifrey and Olruggio from Shirahama's Witch Hat Atelier. We aim for the content in the main zine to be appropriate for a teen and up audience, similar to the source matieral. There is a possibility that the project will include a digital NSFW side zine. This will be determined by our interest check. If so, all adult content would be separated and locked from the main zine so that contributors may opt in or out of seeing it.The content in this zine will feature the relationship between Qifrey and Olruggio throughout their lives. There may be manga spoilers included in the zine and contributor server. We will request discussion of spoilers occur in specific locked channels when possible. We currently plan not to include AU (alternate universe) content in the main zine (E.G. mermaid AU, modern AU, etc), but this may change depending on the results of the interest check. Canon divergence or speculative future content will be allowed. We do not currently plan to include alternative creators, such as cosplayers or fiber artists.

How can I apply to moderate the zine?

We are currently looking for moderators! We need an art moderator to complete our team. We currently plan to hold formal art mod applications during the interest check.

How can I apply as an artist or writer for the zine?

We will hold formal contributor applications for artist, writer, and merch artist positions following the completion of our interest check. Applications will be juried based on the quality of the submitted works and portfolio. All applicants will receive an email with their candidacy results after applications have closed. A small number of contributors will be chosen as guests during the interest check. All contributors will be expected to follow the rules of the project and server, including respecting the mod team and their fellow contributors, meeting deadlines or communicating when unable to do so, and keeping discussion of inappropriate topics to the proper channels or off of the server. All contributors must be over the age of 18. Zine experience and social media reach are not necessary! We welcome all interested creators to apply. We highly encourage submitted portfolios include a sample of Qifrey or Olruggio, but it will not be required.More information regarding contributor applications will come soon! Please make sure to fill out our interest check if interested.

Where will the money go?

This project will be for charity. Funds raised during preorders will go toward production and compensating contributors with copies free of charge (pending the success of preorders), after which any extra funds will be donated to a highly-rated charity voted upon by our moderator and contributor team.

How will contributors be compensated?

As this project is for charity, contributors will not be compensated monetarily. We aim to provide every contributor with a full bundle free of charge, though our ability to do so will depend upon the success of preorders. In the event that the zine cannot afford to cover full bundles, we will subsidize as much as possible and offer contributors the chance to purchase zine items at their production price.

How do I stay updated?
